What is the Hanging Menu Board?

The Hanging Menu Board is a portrait menu board for cafés, bakeries and restaurants, made from aluminum and steel. It suspends from the ceiling on adjustable rods, or mounts to a wall, and comes in two sizes: regular at 19.7″ × 27.6″ (50 × 70 cm) and 13.2 lbs (6 kg), or large at 28″ × 39.4″ (71 × 100 cm) and 22 lbs (10 kg).

What else is the Hanging Menu Board called?

The Hanging Menu Board is also known as a suspended menu board, overhead menu, drop-down menu sign, or hanging sign. Hanging the menu overhead keeps it visible above a queue, where a counter-level sign gets blocked by people standing in front of it.

Does the Hanging Menu Board come with letters?

Magnetic letters aren't included as standard — they're an optional add-on you can select on this page, so they arrive with your board. The regular board takes a set of 516 letters, numbers and symbols; the large board takes 1,032, both at 1″ (2.5 cm) high. The letters come in the inverse color of the board you choose, so they contrast cleanly.

What sizes does the Hanging Menu Board come in?

Two. Regular is 19.7″ × 27.6″ (50 × 70 cm) at 13.2 lbs (6 kg). Large is 28″ × 39.4″ (71 × 100 cm) at 22 lbs (10 kg). For a wider landscape format, the Ceiling Menu Board is the horizontal equivalent.

Can the Hanging Menu Board be ceiling-mounted?

Yes. The board is designed for either ceiling or wall mounting, and the hardware for both is included. Hung from the ceiling, the board sits approximately 33.5″ (85 cm) from the ceiling to the bottom of the board. Four 9.8″ (25 cm) extension rods are supplied — two per side — so you can add 9.8″ (25 cm) or 19.7″ (50 cm) to that drop.

Does the Hanging Menu Board come with mounting hardware?

Yes. Screws for timber are supplied, along with the ceiling and wall hardware. For plasterboard, tile, brick or concrete, source the appropriate fixings from your hardware store — our guide to [drilling into wall tile] covers that process.

At 6–10 kg suspended overhead, fixings need to go into solid structure — a ceiling joist or timber framing, not plasterboard alone. We recommend a builder handle the installation.

What straps are included?

Each board includes a brass set of straps and a set matched to your chosen board color.

Can the Hanging Menu Board be used outdoors?

No. The board is steel and isn't weatherproof, so it's designed for indoor use or fully covered areas.

Can you write on it with a pen?

We don't recommend using any kind of pen or marker. Use magnetic letters for changeable menus, or a vinyl decal for something permanent.

What's the difference between the Ceiling Menu Board and the Hanging Menu Board?

Both hang from the ceiling or mount to a wall, use the same 1″ (2.5 cm) magnetic letters, and take extension rods. The difference is proportion: the Hanging Menu Board is portrait — taller than wide — at 50 × 70 cm or 71 × 100 cm. The Ceiling Menu Board is landscape at 80 × 43 cm or 100 × 71 cm. Choose portrait for more menu lines in a narrower space, landscape for longer lines across a wider one.
